imagefirst piece I’ve done in a very long time, a commissioned piece requested by a very nice gentleman I could not refuse.  He wants the piece for his 92 year old aunt, whom, lived in the house when she was a child.  I tried to restore it to the era as closely as I could with the references I had.  It’s a beautiful home, still standing, near Garrett, Indiana.  I’m so glad his request was for a brick home, as I really love doing brick architecture. This piece is watercolor, ink and colored pencil.   hello to all who used to visit my site when I was more actively painting, hope you all are well and creating great things! Thanks for coming.

I did these two pictures of Judy Garland when I was in high school, before I spent money on too many art supplies, this is plain white poster board and a sharpie marker.  I did obviously, add some watercolor to the head portrait.  These are framed and hanging in my spare bedroom.   I have discovered as I get older, I am the only person in my circle of friends who know that she did much more than the Wizard of Oz with her career and some of my younger friends even have said, “Judy who?”  Augh.  Needless to say, I was quite an oddball, being a Judy Garland fan as a high school teenager and not banging it out to AC/DC like my student counterparts, what can I say?  I appreciate a strong, clear voice and the days of the silver screen.

bevyard

I had forgotten all about this piece I did while sitting in my sister’s back yard in Sacramento, until I got here and saw it on the wall.  That was a fun day, it was beautiful outside, of course, and I did this lazy day ink drawing, she loved it, but I always tell her it is just a “scribble” mostly…I did most of it by just scribbling around with the pen to give the illusion of foliage, that’s what I mean by lazy…didn’t even take the time to draw leaves!  But I will say, this style was fun and moved fast creating good energy.   Good day….

stpauls

I took this picture while driving around Fort Wayne in search of architecture to use as photo references for local pieces.  I was standing below in the massive doorway of this church, looking up, I thought it gave this structure a unique view, it is huge.

INFIRMARY

This was done plein air style in Albion, Indiana.  Leslie White and I drove by this while looking for subjects to paint and were complelled to stop.  It is known to be an old “asylum”, but the sign at the far edge of the yard read, “Noble County Infrimary and Farm 1872-1957”.  The colored pencil barn I have posted on this site that is in Albion, is attached to this property as well,  So, this was a beneficial stop for us.  Naturally, we had to make two trips here to do the barn and the infirmary, but,  it was well worth it.  The tubes coming from the top windows are old fire escapes, as I understand it, a matress would have been thrown down under the patient and they would slide down to safety.  Looks fun just to play in to me.   It was these unique old escape routes that first caught my eye to this beautiful brick building.   I would love to paint this again.  The two strips of camera flash  glare on the fire escape are a result of  this piece being wrapped in plastic.

CHAPPELL'S

This is a seafood restaurant in Fort Wayne, Indiana, there is an art/framing shop right next to it.  While participating in a sidewalk art sale along this area, I painted this plein air style.  It was a fun activity I spent the day doing with  artist friend, Leslile White, who, now owns this piece.  This is watercolor, pen and ink, colored pencil.

oriental

This is a first attempt  at an oriental style watercolor

spencervillebridge

This is one of  my favorite plein air memories.  I had fun in Spencerville, Indiana, at this celebrated historic bridge, painting with close friend and fellow artist, Leslie White.  It was “buggy” that day because it was warm, but well worth it.  This is watercolor and pen and ink.

clubsoda

Club Soda in Fort Wayne, Indiana, this is a great historic landmark I could not resist doing in watercolor and ink, I love old brick architecture

Tractor

This is an old Alice-Chalmers tractor, I photographed it outside a barn in northern Indiana, then painted this in watercolor, colored pencil and ink from the photograph
